Ellinikon Experience Center

1500 sqm redesign of the permanent gallery for the Australian Center for the Moving Image (ACMI) in Melbourne. The exhibit takes the visitor through the history of film and moving image. This project is part of a larger renewal effort that involves a building redesign, re-branding and reshaping of ACMI as a key Australia Film institution.

As part of the exhibit design, Second Story and ACMI also developed an Enchanted Object that helps users collect, reveal and activate moments throughout their visit. Through the visit, the enchanted object activates multiple immersive experiences and interactive activities such as an immersive Foley Room experience, a light garden of precious projected moving image content and a mechanical rotating handle that allows visitors to split time in a film clip and reveal the workings of the moving image.

A 2000 sqm Experience Center showcasing the largest Urban Masterplan in Europe – The Ellinikon . The center focuses on a unique visitor experience and display of tech-enabled innovation. The Experience Center allows visitors to familiarize themselves with the Ellinikon Project and its benefits while offering them exciting emotions and ultimately a memorable and engaging experience.

The vision for the project was to create an emotionally resonant journey connecting people and place through immersive and interactive experiences. Creating an unforgettable place for guests to learn and share Ellinikon’s values and future aspirations while also enabling a strong sense of a homecoming, arrival and anticipation for guests. Guests range from local Athens residents to international visitors and potential investors.

Set within Ellinikon’s heritage airplane hangar and the old Athens airport site, the experience center embarks on a journey connecting people to place through the spirit of flight and the concept of airflow. This theme was used to inform the guest flow which emerges as the flow of air around a central form, intuitive and organic.

Once inside the Experience Center, visitors enter a pavilion with an 8.5m diameter maquette of the Ellinikon site where 3dimensional maquette elements merge in an immersive and interactive content experience taking guest through the past, present and future of the project.

After this arrival moment guest are invited to explore the many precincts and ambitions of the Ellinikon site though a series of themes zones where multiple interactive experiences and content are on display. The experiences include a luxury yacht immersive interactive ride, an interactive bike ride through the future parks of Ellinikon and an interactive night garden installation.
